Ewing's sarcoma:
Fight the most aggressive cancer - in the right place, at the right time.
Ewing's sarcoma. One of the most unwelcome diagnoses a patient could hear. Even one with seemingly ordinary complaints and symptoms that do not necessarily point to an underlying cancer. As in the case of Nikolai Trayanov Ivanov.
Without having been diagnosed beforehand, the 18-year-old Bulgarian sent a request to the Health Information Centre "Medical Karaj". The Medikal Karadži Health Information Centre team arranged an examination at Liv Hospital, Istanbul in May 2017. The biopsy performed confirmed the bad news - a malignant tumour.
In the presence of some of the world's best specialists in this field, with all the high-tech tools needed to fight one of the most aggressive forms of cancer, Nicholas overcame the most difficult obstacle of his life to date.
And he gets a chance.........to have a future, to realize himself, to start a family, to continue living.
Listen to Nikolai's account of everything that happened:
"My name is Nikolai Trayanov Ivanov. I am 18 years old, from Bulgaria. I came to this hospital in May, 2017, without a diagnosis. I immediately had a biopsy to find out if my mass was benign or malignant. It came out malignant, after which Professor Hilmy prescribed chemotherapy so they could stop it as I had swelling in my eye. After the first chemo it started to go down, I felt better and after the fifth chemo they decided it was time for surgery.
The team of neurosurgeons, headed by Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kemal Hamamcioglu, performed a very complicated but very successful surgery that actually saved my life. I am extremely grateful to them. The Ear, Nose, Throat team, headed by Prof. Dr. Ismet Aslan, who is also an extremely good doctor, was also involved in this operation and I thank him very much for what he did.
All the doctors in this hospital are professionals. They amaze me every day with what they do. I really recommend this hospital to everyone. Anyone who has doubts about their treatment better come here because they will surely be prescribed the right treatment."
Timely and correct diagnosis is crucial in Ewing's sarcoma. Delayed response or misdiagnosis can lead to consequences that are difficult to manage and correct. Ewing's Sarcoma most commonly affects the bones of patients, but not infrequently metastasizes to other parts of the body. It occurs predominantly in males, in rare cases over the age of 30. Initial symptomatology may include a rise in body temperature, pain, a clearly noticeable swelling, redness and oedema in the problem area of the body. A categorical diagnosis of Ewing's sarcoma can only be made after a biopsy has been performed in the area of the tumour formation.
