Intense pulsed light - IPL

Intense pulsed light - IPL 001

As we age, the skin also ages and problems such as lines, wrinkles and sagging can be troublesome for both women and men. On the other hand, new generation technologies used in skin rejuvenation are attracting attention with their successful results. These technologies are not only used for skin rejuvenation, but also to treat redness and vascularization caused by rosacea, acne scars, cracks and scars on the skin. IPL stands out among the new generation of skin rejuvenation technologies.

What is IPL?

IPL, short for "intense pulsed light," stands for "concentrated pulsed light" or "broadband light." IPL technology is a light therapy system that uses projectors with different wavelengths. While smaller areas can be treated with laser technology, larger areas can be treated in one shot with IPL technology. IPL technology is a more concentrated system and stands out among the new generation of skin rejuvenation methods. It can work under the skin with low energy and can be used effectively for many skin problems thanks to its different nanometer filters.

For which diseases is IPL used?

The most successful areas of application of the IPL system are flushing and vascularization for rosacea, active acne lesions, acne scarring and treatment of skin blemishes. Thanks to the NT800 head inside the unit, it is also used for anti-aging, skin tightening, radiance and rejuvenation.

Areas of use of IPL:

  • Pigmented lesions (freckles, age spots and birthmarks)
  • Lentigo (a type of sunspot)
  • Melasma (pregnancy and sun spots)
  • Vascular lesions
  • Telangiectasia (lesions seen as red spots on the skin)
  • Poikiloderma (redness)
  • Acne
  • Rosacea
  • Skin rejuvenation
  • Hair removal
  • Scars

How is IPL applied?

IPL technology, which uses an intense light pulse, offers treatment options with different treatment filters. Light wavelengths between 400-1200 nm can be converted to specific wavelengths using special filters and caps. It can be used in separate wavelengths to tighten and rejuvenate the skin when treating blemished skin, to treat a red face or to treat acne. With fast beam technology, the 20 Hz light works a maximum of 16 times in a maximum of 16 seconds and all 320 pulses are formed smoothly at super high speed. The system provides controlled on-site capture with standard and optional sapphire focal heads.

Frequently asked questions about IPL

What is the difference between IPL and laser?

The difference between IPL and laser is the type of light applied in the treatment. IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is a broadband pulsed light source. The laser works with a single wavelength, stronger beam. Unlike laser devices, IPL uses a broad spectrum of light with multiple wavelengths. IPL energy is weaker compared to laser devices and does not spread out linearly- it spreads out and covers a larger area.

Is there pain during the IPL procedure?

IPL application is not a painful method in general. However, because patients' pain thresholds may be different, anesthetic creams can be used in people with a low pain threshold. Patients report an increase in temperature in the area where the application is applied rather than pain.

Which areas does IPL (BBL) apply to?

  • Person
  • Hands
  • Neck
  • Can be used on all areas of the skin where effectiveness is desired.

How many sessions and how often is IPL used?

The number of sessions and the periods to be applied vary depending on the skin problem to be treated with the IPL method. However, if it is to be judged as a whole, 3 treatment sessions with 3-week intervals are usually sufficient. Each session lasts on average between 30-45 minutes. The superficial nature of the spot, the colour of the patient's skin and compliance after treatment all influence the success rate.

What should be considered after IPL treatment?

To increase the success rate after IPL treatment, it is necessary to follow the doctor's recommendations:

  • It is necessary to keep very well out of the sun. If necessary, it should be protected with creams containing a high protection factor.
  • A humidifier should be used during treatment.
  • If there are thin crusts falling off after the application of IPL, they should not be broken off, but should be allowed to heal on their own.

When treating spots, the stain becomes darker in the first 2 weeks, and then lightens. There is no cause for concern.

When do I start to notice the effects after applying IPL?

When IPL is applied to redness, there is a reduction in redness from the first session.

Although mild inflammation increases initially when IPL is applied for acne, the acne fades within 2-3 weeks.

Immediately after the IPL treatment, the color of the stain becomes darker. Within 7-10 days the skin peels off slightly superficially and the colour of the spot usually becomes lighter. A brighter, more vibrant and even skin tone appears.
