For patients with reproductive and urological problems: free consultations with top doctors from abroad
Couples with problem pregnancies and patients with urological problems will have the opportunity to consult leading specialists from abroad free of charge in Sofia. On the initiative of the Health Information Center "Medical Karadži", top doctors from Yeditepe University Hospital, who apply cutting-edge methods in the treatment of infertility and urological diseases, will arrive in Bulgaria on November 5.
In vitro with microchip in male factor infertility
An innovative in vitro fertilization method using microchip technology is giving new hope to many couples with reproductive problems. It is being applied in cases with male factor infertility and is leading to a marked increase in cases where pregnancy is achieved.
Almost half of the cases of problem pregnancy are due to male factor. This means that the possibilities of conceiving naturally are limited due to reduced sperm count or reduced sperm motility. In these cases, microfluidic chip technology is applied to help select the healthiest and most viable sperm.
"These chips are etched with tiny grooves or strips. When two strips fuse, the energetic sperm swim away, while the weaker or damaged ones are collected separately. The selected sperm are then used by microinjection," describes the method Prof Dr Jem Ficigiolu. This ensures the creation of higher quality embryos and a higher chance of pregnancy.
The innovative technique has been developed very recently and is currently introduced in only a few leading IVF clinics in the world, including Yeditepe University Hospital in neighbouring Turkey. The hospital reports that the application of the method leads to an increase in the success rate of in vitro fertilization, and Prof.. Mr Ficigiuolu described it as "a significant breakthrough in the treatment of male infertility".
Now, couples with reproductive problems in Bulgaria who are interested in the new method have the opportunity to have a free consultation with Prof. Dr. Cem Ficigiolu on site in Sofia. He has extensive international experience in the USA, UK and Belgium, has authored over 200 scientific papers and presentations, and since 2005 has been the Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Yeditepe University and the Director of the In Vitro Centre.
Ultrasound and laser in prostate cancer
Modern medicine allows patients with urological problems who need surgical intervention to benefit from the techniques of minimally invasive surgery. In this method, the area where the surgery is performed is observed with a magnification of 10-20 times, which allows for more precise movements and minimal blood loss. This results in a faster recovery and shorter hospital stay, explains Prof. Dr. Farouk Yenjilek, who heads the urology clinic at Yeditepe.
Targeted ultrasound therapy (HIFU) for patients with prostate cancer in stages 1-2 is also applied at the medical institution. It is a completely bloodless and painless procedure for a permanent cure from the insidious disease. The high energy of the ultrasound is focused into tissue the size of a grain of rice. A temperature of 90-100 degrees is developed that destroys the membrane of the cells and they literally melt away without affecting the surrounding healthy tissue. Thus, the malignant growths are destroyed and in their place scar tissue is formed in which there are no tumor cells. HIFU in its purest form is robotic surgery with the highest degree of precision, and its most important advantage is that over 95% of patients retain normal urinary and erectile function, unlike classical surgery.
The urology clinic of Yeditepe also uses laser surgery for prostate enlargement using Greenlight, which is as gentle as possible for the patient compared to classical surgery, points out Prof. Dr. Farouk Yenjilek. Now the professor, who has honed his skills in laparoscopic urology and endourology at the Heidelberg Clinic of Heidelberg University in Germany and is now one of the most respected professors in Turkey, will be available for free consultations for patients with urological problems in the country, including malignant diseases of the urinary tract.
The two specialists will visit Bulgaria on November 5 at the invitation of the Health Information Center "Medical Karadj", as part of their initiative to provide Bulgarian patients with access to the most advanced methods in medicine, partnering with some of the best medical institutions and specialists from around the world in each medical field.
Those wishing to take advantage of the free consultations should make an appointment in advance at tel. 0895 770 869 or 0879 977 401.
For consultation with the professor of urology, patients should bring all available epithelial and imaging studies to date.
For a consultation with the in vitro specialist it is necessary to provide the following tests:
- AMN
- FSH
- LH
- Prolactin
- Estradiol
- Progesterone (taken between day 2 and 4 of the cycle)
- FT3
- FT4
- TSH
- TAT and MAT (in the first clean days of the cycle)
- Spermogram
- Blood group and rhesus factor of both
- at the patient's request - Thrombophilia mutations
