Who is Dr. Mustafa Onder Dolap?
Dr Dolap is the deputy chief medical officer at Watan Chorlu Hospital. He graduated from Istanbul Medical University in 1996 and specialised at Hasek Teaching and Research Hospital. In 2013, he specialized in minimally invasive surgery. He has participated in numerous congresses related to surgery for obesity, metabolic diseases and hernia.
In his practice, Dr. Dolap prefers gastric bypass for metabolic surgery as the gold standard. The surgical procedure called gastric bypass is an intervention in which the stomach is divided into a small upper pouch and a much larger lower "remnant" pouch and then the small intestine is rearranged to connect to both. Dr. Dolap does this procedure 4-5 times a month. With this intervention the recovery process is easier and the results successful and long term.
Successful treatment of obesity dramatically improves the comorbidities associated with it. For example, Type 2 diabetes is eliminated by gastric bypass in 80% of obese patients. Gastric bypass effectively controls sleep apnea in many patients. Obesity-related hypertension is also affected by the procedure and disappears in half to two-thirds of patients.
