Prof. Dr. Alp Gürkan will be a guest of ZIC Medical Karaj on 21 and 22 June 2019. Within the framework of his visit, the professor of kidney transplantation and diabetic surgery will conduct completely free consultations for Bulgarian patients. Who is Prof. Dr. Alp Gyurkan?
Prof. Alp Gürkan was born in 1959 in the town of. He is one of the best kidney transplantologists in our southern neighbour. His team is one of the best in Turkey in kidney transplantation as well as diabetic and metabolic surgery. Throughout his career, Prof. Dr. Gürkan has practiced and taught general and transplant surgery. He established four kidney transplant centers, one of which was the first organ transplant clinic in Turkey outside a university hospital. This clinic became the most important donor center in the whole country. Prof. Gürkan is the lead surgeon at all four centers, and his work includes managing transplant teams with over 30 staff, managing organ exchange programs, and creating and developing transplant procedures. In his practice, Prof. Alp has performed over 1800 kidney transplants. He has also successfully completed numerous pancreas and intestinal transplants. In addition to transplant surgeries, he has performed over 3,000 surgical procedures, primarily gastrointestinal oncology surgeries, including over 40 laparoscopic surgeries for hiatal hernia and morbid obesity.

The annual success rate of kidney transplant operations performed by Prof. Gürkan is 98%. In the type 2 diabetes patients operated on, 80% of them have discontinued insulin and 65% have discontinued diabetes medication. Almost all diabetic patients who underwent surgery for obesity did not need to take diabetes medication. Among all the patients operated on by Prof. Dr. Alp Gyurcan's team, not a single patient has died, no matter the nature of the surgery, whether it was a kidney transplant, diabetic surgery or metabolic surgery for obesity.
