Today we want to congratulate our little hero Bobby, who turns 1 year old today!
Boris stoically went through the serious and extremely precise tongue reduction surgery (partial glossectomy) with an amazing professional in Istanbul.
When we first met Boris, he was 9 months old, but despite his tender age, it was obvious that he was a bright and alert child. Bobby was born with a rare syndrome - Beckwith-Videman syndrome.
One of the common symptoms of Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome is macroglossia (excessively large tongue).
The day we met Bobby and his wonderful parents, I learned about their history. They told her that they were actively searching for a good specialist to perform the surgery, as they were worried about the aftermath and possible residual defects after such a complex intervention.
Once again, one of the specialists we are honored to work with specifically answered our patients' questions, and gave comprehensive information on how the surgery would be performed. It became clear that surgery should not be delayed due to the increased choking during feeding and the danger of life-threatening choking during sleep.
Although the syndrome is rare, the specialist is experienced in this type of surgery and in this particular syndrome, which was very reassuring to Bobby's parents.
This is also the time to mention that the surgery is extremely complex and requires great precision due to the risk of affecting important structures of the tongue and receptors.
They decided to trust us and at the end of September Bobby was already admitted for surgery.
Soon after the intervention Bobby started to eat normally, laugh and play. We are continuing to monitor the recovery process and hope everything goes as planned!
We are extremely grateful to the specialists at the hospital in Istanbul for their care and professional attitude.
I am so happy to have met this sunny child and his dedicated and wonderful parents!
From the bottom of our hearts we wish Bobby and his family good health and lots of smiles!
THANK YOU for being an hour out of your way!
