Transplant centres - when do we have indications for transplantation?
Transplantation is required when an organ has an irreversible functional or tissue disorder that results in the inability of that organ to function for the benefit of the body. In recent years, there has been a growth in transplant surgery. The number of people who need to receive an organ is increasing compared to organ donors.
Liver and kidney transplants are the most common. The success rate of kidney transplants is supported by the so-called "cross method". This is a procedure in which two patients exchange organs donated by their relatives. As legislation in the countries we work with allows this procedure, the possibility of two donor-recipient pairs crossing is proposed.
Here we must necessarily mention a few more highly developed branches in the field of transplantation:
- bone marrow transplantation;
- stem cell transplantation - autologous (the source of the cells is the patient) or allogeneic transplantation (the source of the cells is different from the patient).
