Do you know what is involved in an allogeneic bone marrow transplant?

  • Conditioning. During the conditioning process, you will receive high doses of chemotherapy or radiation - or sometimes both treatments - to kill the cancer cells. The treatment you undergo depends on the disease and your specific case.
  • Receiving stem cell infusion. Stem cells from a donor will be infused into your blood, where they will travel to your bone marrow and begin making new blood cells.
  • You remain under strict medical care. After your transplant, the medical team will want to monitor you closely for signs of complications. You may spend several weeks in or near the hospital. You will have frequent blood tests and checkups to monitor your body's response to the transplant.
