Koç University Hospital is one of the leading hospitals in our southern neighbour.
It was established in recent 2014 as a hospital for medical research and training of young personnel.
By 2016, the hospital significantly increased its ability to admit and treat patients, with 404 single rooms dedicated to admitting guests for inpatient treatment and 73 rooms for intensive care.
14 manipulation and 13 operating theatres are available to the professional team of the hospital in the many areas in which it is developing at a rapid pace. As of 2018, hundreds of thousands have benefited from the services of Koch Hospital's established specialists for all kinds of medical interventions and manipulations.
In order to be able to meet the ever-increasing demands and needs of patients, Koch University Hospital is building and maintaining a 220,000 sqm student medical campus at its heart.
It has one basic goal - to increase the competence and professionalism of each and every person who has trained at the hospital, and thus to raise the basic level of medical care throughout Turkey. To this end, the campus has:
- Faculty of Medicine
- School of Nursing
- research laboratories
- advanced training centre, and raising the qualification level
It's run by American standards, and it's no surprise that Koch Hospital is the only official representative of MD Anderson Cancer Center outside of America.
The "single practice model" is the formula being worked on here.
Emulate the algorithms and standards provided by medical professionals trained in Houston. This approach allows patients to receive treatment identical to what they would receive at the MD Anderson Center in Houston. All medical technology and quality control units are the same as at MD Anderson Center.

Koç University Hospital - Istanbul, Turkey
"We, the team of the Organ Transplant Center at Koch University Hospital are here to bring you a second life and be your second family."
Organ transplantation is a serious need throughout the world. Koch University Hospital offers high quality organ transplantation based on an advanced global standard of care. The head of the Organ Transplant Center at Koç University Hospital is the world-renowned transplant surgeon, Prof. Dr. Munci Kalayoglu. He served as the head of the Liver Transplant Center at the University of Wisconsin, USA. Prof. Dr. Munci Kalayoglu is also recognized as one of the most innovative pediatric surgeons in the world.
The Organ Transplantation Center of Koç University Hospital offers kidney, pancreas and liver transplantation surgeries by an internationally recognized, experienced team under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Burak Koçak and Assoc. Turan Kanmaz.
Choosing the right transplant centre is very important. Organ transplantation does not only consist of surgery. The process is extremely serious, starting long before the transplant itself and continuing afterwards. It requires multidisciplinary care, which is why a high quality of laboratory tests, imaging, operating theatres, pre- and post-operative care and intensive care unit (ICU) is needed during the transplant process. Koch University Hospital is fully equipped with the latest technology and offers advanced surgical methods. Organ transplant surgeries at Koç University Hospital, performed by our experienced team, in a fully equipped hospital based on the most advanced technology in medicine, result in a high success rate.
The Coch University Hospital Organ Transplant Centre offers the following procedures:
- Kidney and liver transplantation from living donors
- Combined kidney and liver transplantation (simultaneous or sequential)
- Pediatric kidney transplant
- Children's liver transplantation
- Paediatric combined kidney and liver transplantation (simultaneous or sequential)

The center operates the first EFI-accredited immunology laboratory in Turkey.
Koch University Hospital's Organ Transplant Center offers robotic kidney transplantation.
The donor kidney is inserted into the recipient's body through a small 5 cm abdominal incision made around the umbilicus. Surgeons perform the rest of the entire procedure with the da Vinci Xi robotic system. In robotic surgery, a computer-controlled robotic arm is used to perform the transplant. Surgeons direct the arm's movements and use small instruments through tiny incisions to transplant the donor kidney. To perform the operations successfully, the Koch University Hospital team combines its collective experience in laparoscopic and robotic kidney transplantation, accumulated in more than 2000 cases, one of the largest series in Europe and probably in the world, and 2 decades of flawless practice.
In addition to being cosmetically superior to open surgical technique, robotic kidney transplantation provides less pain after surgery and allows patients to recover their quality of life faster.
