Founded in 1920 under the leadership of American Admiral L. Bristol, American Hospital was the first private non-profit hospital in Turkey. Along with the hospital, the first nursing school in Turkey was founded and became an integral part of it.
After 1995, ownership of American Hospital was transferred to the Vehbi Koch Foundation (VKV). In all the years of support until now, VKV has invested more than $300 million in its development. This has contributed to American Hospital becoming a leading hospital in the healthcare sector in Turkey.
American Hospital is located in the centre of Istanbul next to Taksim Square. The hospital is spread over an area of over 11,000 square meters and has:

American Hospital is a general and critical care hospital. It provides healthcare services in all medical and surgical specialties except psychiatry and transplantation. These two referrals are served by Koch University Hospital, which is also part of the Wehby Koch Foundation.

92 years ago the hospital was established with 45 beds and 3 operating theatres. Today there are over 200 patient rooms, 62 intensive care rooms and 12 operating rooms. Approximately annually, the hospital serves over 150 thousand patients from different parts of Turkey and the world. Also, in a year more than 10,000 surgeries in all fields of surgery are performed in American Hospital. This allows American Hospital to become a leading and reliable leader in the delivery of healthcare services.
