Prof. Dr. Semih Halzerolu graduated from Cerrahpasa University Faculty of Medicine in Istanbul in 1987. He completed his specialization in thoracic surgery in 1992 at Heybeliada Hospital for Breast Diseases and Thoracic Surgery. He became associate professor in 2001 and professor in 2008.
Prof. Dr. Semih Halzerolu is the first Turkish surgeon to be elected President of the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the world's largest thoracic surgery organization with more than 1000 members from more than sixty countries. He served on the association's board of directors for 8 years between 2000-2008.
He founded the European School of Thoracic Surgery and served as Director for 5 years (2006-2011).

He has written chapters in many national books and in 2 different English books published abroad.

He was awarded 2 certificates of appreciation by the Governor of Istanbul for his contribution to health services in 2007 and 2008.
He received the third International Masters of Breast Surgery Award in 2016.
