Koç University Hospital is one of the leading hospitals in our southern neighbour. It was established in 2014 as a hospital for medical research and training of young professionals.
Prof. Dr. Derya Balbay graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1985. She specialized in urology at the same university from 1988 to 1992. In 1994, he specialized in urology at the Mayo Clinic - Minnesota, USA. From 1996 to 1999 Prof. Dr. Balbay specialized in uro-oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center, University of Texas, USA. He obtained the academic degree of Associate Professor in 1999 and Professor in 2008.
Prof. Dr. Balbay has a professional experience of more than a thousand robotic surgeries.
For the first time in the world, Prof. Dr. Derya Balbay performed excision of ureter, bladder and lymph nodes and reconstruction of a new bladder from the small intestine in the same session with a fully robotic method.
He performed, the first in Turkey, a new bladder reconstruction from the small intestine with a fully robotic and closed method.
In 2019 he receives the award "Distinguished Alumnus Award" at The M.D. Anderson".
