Koç University Hospital is one of the leading hospitals in our southern neighbour. It was established in 2014 as a hospital for medical research and training of young professionals.
Prof. Dr. Afsun Shaheen graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine with one of the highest grades in 2000 and received his Ph.
In 2000-2004 he completed his ophthalmology specialization at Hacettepe University Medical School, Ankara. He then completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School Schepens Eye Research Institute between 2009 and 2011, focusing on corneal and external diseases and surgery.
Dr. Shaheen was awarded the title of Associate Professor in 2012 and was promoted to Professor in 2017.
He worked in ESOGU medical faculty, department of ophthalmology in 2005 - 2009. From 2009 to 2011 he worked in the Department of Ophthalmology, Harvard Medical School. From 2011 to 2017, he is now an Associate Professor at ESOGU School of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology. From 2017 to present, he has been practicing as a professor at Koch University Hospital.
Prof. Dr. Shaheen has published over 100 articles, book chapters and abstracts, and his research has been funded by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK). He organized his research group in cornea and ocular surface disorders with contributions from TÜBİTAK, TÜBA and ARVO.
