Prof. Dr. Erdal Karayoz is a specialist in stem cell therapy from the high-tech Liv Hospital in Istanbul, Turkey and will consult patients from Bulgaria free of charge on November 6, 2021 in Istanbul. He will be visiting Sofia on 20 April, 2014. The specialist will visit Bulgaria at the invitation of the Health Information Center "Medical Karadži", within our initiative to provide Bulgarian patients with access to the most advanced methods and technologies in medicine.

Who is Prof. Dr. Erdal Karayoz?

Prof. Dr. Erdal Karayoz is one of the pioneers in the application of innovative stem cell treatment methods. He is the founder and for more than 10 years the head of the "Stem Cell and Gene Therapy Research Center" at Kocaeli University in Turkey. He is currently heading the world's first "Center for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cells", which opened in Liv Hospital, a private hospital. He has won 36 national and international awards for his research in stem cell therapies and genetic engineering.

Stem cells "repair" the body

There are hundreds of types of cells in the human body. Stem cells are the primary cells - those that, under the right conditions, can transform into all cell types. With their help, unhealthy tissues can regenerate or regenerate. Regenerative medicine is one of the most intriguing fields in modern medicine.

Liv Hospital uses cells extracted from the patient's own tissue and processed in a specific way to achieve medical and aesthetic results not possible with other tools of traditional medicine. A team led by Prof. Dr. Erdal Karayoz is working on the application of cell therapies in patients with various diagnoses, and especially in the fields of orthopedics, brain surgery, plastic surgery and dermatology. With them it is possible, for example, to restore an impaired blood supply to the extremities. In the case of the so-called diabetic foot, from which about 25% of diabetics suffer and about 8% of them are at risk of amputation, regenerative cell therapy is considerably more patient-friendly. In Burger's disease, which affects peripheral vessels, stem cell transplantation improves quality of life and in quite a few cases prevents limb removal.

The positive effect of stem cells has also been proven in orthopedic problems, joint and cartilage repair, spinal problems and sports injuries.

In a number of other medical fields, stem cells are yielding promising results at the experimental level. At Liv Hospital they are testing their use in patients with chronic lung disease and reporting good results. Significant progress has also been seen in children with cerebral palsy and muscular degeneration - some have been prevented from progressing and others have seen a marked improvement in their condition.

Stem cells and aesthetic medicine

Stem cells give an excellent and natural result in reducing the traces of age or so-called anti-aging. This is done in three stages: first, fat tissue is extracted from the patient using biopsy or liposuction. Cells are then extracted from it and processed, which are finally injected back in to rejuvenate the affected area.

A similar method is also used to erase scars, burns and injuries on the skin, avoiding the risk of allergic reaction and achieving the most natural result.

With the help of regenerative techniques, breast reconstruction after removal is also possible, for example in patients with breast cancer.

Prof. Dr. Karaioz administers stem cells to treat:

  • Autism
  • Epilepsy
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Muscular dystrophy
  • Diabetes and diabetic foot
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease - COPD
  • Tennis elbow
  • Injuries of the brain and spinal cord
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Damage to articular cartilage
  • Crohn's disease
  • Optic neuropathy and others

Currently prof. Karayoz and his colleagues are focused on clinical trials for the treatment of incurable diseases, especially neuromuscular degenerative disorders (Duchenne muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, spinocerebellar/Frederich ataxia, hypoxic encephalopathy, spinal cord injury, etc.), through the administration of umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells.

Those wishing to take advantage of the free consultations with Prof. Dr. Erdal Karayoz on 6 November 2021 should make an appointment in advance by calling the Health Information Centre of Medical Karaj on 0878 500 940 or 0879 977 402 and provide all medical documents they have to date on the spot.
