So, a new story with a happy ending... As they say, miracles happen at Christmas, and our miracle is this struggling young man whose family trusted us and together we walked a very long and difficult road. The team that cared for him made an incredible effort, Assoc. Toktash for almost a whole year she took care of his treatment and behold - the results are there.
Last year on Christmas Eve Nikolai went to Istanbul in a specialized ambulance. He was in a medicated coma, on a ventilator, completely immobilized from the neck down and with many other problems after the serious accident he had survived. He had been in intensive care in Bulgaria for three months without any improvement. Almost no one gave up hope for him, we too often despaired, but never stopped praying and hoping that he and the teams would pull through. After a very long stay in the hospital, he started breathing on his own again, started eating on his own, started talking... his life was saved by Assoc. Toktash and his team who fought around the clock for him. He endured multiple manipulations and surgeries and never gave up fighting.
Nobody believed in his progress, but here, a year later, he came to Varna to finally meet and greet Assoc. Toktash. I was immensely happy to finally see him in the flesh and in a very good general condition, which we could not have dreamed of some time ago.
Nicky has shown us all what spirit and the will to live is all about, he has taught us a lot and we are proud to know him.
And to the team that has taken care of it for so long, we can only say: take a bow!
Nikki will be spending Christmas at home with family and friends and there is no greater gift than that.
