Assoc. Prof. Mehmet Osman Akçakaya

The neurosurgeon Assoc. Prof. Mehmet Osman Akçakaya will consult patients in Sofia for free on 17 October 2018. He has worked in the Department of Neurosurgery at the high-tech Liv Hospital in Turkey, specialized in Hanover and Tel Aviv, and is the author of more than 40 scientific articles in prestigious medical journals. He will be visiting Bulgaria at the invitation of Zvezdelina Lütfi, Manager of the Health Information Center "Medical Karaj", as part of their initiative to provide Bulgarian patients with access to the latest advances in medicine by partnering with some of the best medical institutions and specialists from around the world. Consultations are suitable for patients who need a second medical opinion or are interested in receiving treatment abroad.

Operative treatment of movement disorders

Conditions in which the ability to control movement is impaired can sometimes also be treated surgically. These include Parkinson's disease, essential tremor, dystonias and other movement disorders. In some cases, so-called deep brain stimulation is applicable in these patients. The method has been used for 20 years around the world, but its success largely depends on the experience of the medical team, the multidisciplinary approach involving various specialists, as well as the good technological equipment of the medical institution where the procedure is performed.

Surgery for brain tumours

Brain tumors are one of the most difficult locations for surgical treatment because any wrong movement can result in loss of vital functions. Assoc. Mehmet Osman Akçakaya uses the most advanced equipment available worldwide for neuronavigation and fluorescence-guided surgical treatment in his work. This reduces the risk of complications after brain surgery.

Treatment of diseases of the peripheral nervous system

This is a specific medical field that requires special training and fine surgical techniques. Assoc. Akçakaya had the opportunity to undergo training in 2010 with prof. Shimon Rokhkind in Israel, head of one of only four centers in the world and the only one outside of the United States that issues qualification certificates in this field. Brachial plexus injuries and tumors, peripheral nerve injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome and others are routinely treated with surgical methods.

Surgical treatment of epilepsy

Epilepsy is a relatively common disease that significantly impairs quality of life in people of all ages. Assoc. Mehmet Osman Akçakaya applies various surgical methods to treat this socially significant disease, including resective techniques and vagus nerve stimulation.

Those wishing to take the opportunity for a free consultation with Assoc. 0879 977 401 or 0879 977 402.
