For patients with gastroenterological and liver diseases: free consultations with a leading specialist from abroad
Dr. Atakan Yesil, a leading specialist in gastroenterology from Yeditepe University Hospital in Turkey, will consult patients in Sofia free of charge on 7 and 8 July. The consultations are suitable for patients with gastroenterological health problems; liver diseases, including hepatitis and cirrhosis; pancreatic diseases and inflammatory bowel diseases, including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
Dr. Atakan Yesil is a specialist with a fast career and an excellent reputation in our southern neighbour Turkey. He graduated in medicine in 2003 from the Faculty of Medicine "Jerrahpasa", specializing in internal medicine and gastroenterology, and in 2014 he has already acquired the title of associate professor from the Faculty of Medicine "Hacettepe". He is the author of dozens of scientific publications in his country and abroad.
One of the interesting areas of activity of Assoc. Yeshil is the work with the high-tech medical device FibroScan, which is used for non-invasive diagnostics of the liver. The test is performed painlessly and without any surgical intervention, using ultrasound waves, and in many cases is an alternative to liver biopsy.
Chronic liver diseases such as hepatitis B, hepatitis C, fat accumulation in the liver, over time can cause damage and lead to fibrosis. As fibrosis progresses, the liver hardens even more, and the final stage of fibrosis is cirrhosis. Fibroscan measures the density of the liver and predicts its fibrotic stage.
Assoc. Yeshil points out that the method that best assesses the condition of the liver is liver biopsy. But because it is painful and sometimes causes serious complications, such as haemorrhage, it often worries patients. FibroScan can prevent unnecessary biopsies in many diseases or be used to monitor the effectiveness of treatment because monitoring by repeated biopsies is not reasonable or appropriate.
Dr. Atakan Yeshil will visit Bulgaria at the invitation of the Health Information Center "Medical Karaj", as part of their initiative to provide Bulgarian patients with access to the most advanced methods in medicine, partnering with some of the best medical institutions and specialists from around the world in each medical field.
